WB's VP for South Asia Region pays courtesy call on PM Dahal

KATHMANDU, June 10: World Bank's Vice-President for the South Asia Region, Martin Raiser, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Dahal recalled Nepal's six-decade long collaboration with the World Bank and discussed climate related challenges facing Nepal in the development process and possibility of green development.

He extended gratitude to the World Bank for its role in Nepal's economic and social development mainly in financial management for development of hydropower.

PM Dahal thanked the WB for its coordinated efforts to collect financial resources for the Upper Arun Hydropower Project. He mentioned that not only Nepal, neighboring countries India and Bangladesh would be benefitted from Nepal's hydropower development as well as the region.

According to him, entire people from the globe would be benefitted once the impact of climate change is reduced with the development of green and clean energy. Discussion was underway with Bangladesh to collaborate in hydropower development of Nepal, he added.

During the meeting, Vice-President Martin said the WB was always ready to provide support in Nepal's economic and social developments. He suggested to the Nepal government that it utilized available means and resources optimally.

Martin further expressed commitment that the WB would always be active to join hands in the improvement sectors.
