Union Ministers meet President of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia based in New Delhi on separate occasions

Union Minister for International Cooperation U Ko Ko Hlaing met the delegation led by Mr. Shirumalla Venkat Narayan, President of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia based in New Delhi, at the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on June 7.

During the meeting, they discussed matters on the latest developments in Myanmar and efforts of the Myanmar Government to ensure peace and stability in the country, matters related to the enhancement of cooperation between the two countries in the areas of trade and investment, connectivity and media development.

Similarly, Union Minister for Commerce U Aung Naing Oo received the delegation led by Mr. Shirumalla Venkat Narayan at the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw at the same day. They cordially exchanged views on matters in connection with trade promotion between Myanmar and India, prospects of enhancing economic cooperation and trade between Myanmar and the countries that were in the former British Indian region, investment promotion, economic cooperation between Myanmar and India’s northeastern states, and the acceleration of the people-to-people interaction between Myanmar and India. The Union minister also clarified the questions raised by Mr. Shirumalla Venkat Narayan.

Union Minister U MaungMaung Ohn also met Mr. Shirumalla Venkat Narayan at the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on June 7. During the meeting, they discussed the India-Myanmar bilateral media sector cooperation, the upgrading of The Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper, and the inclusion of bilateral border trade news. The also discussed the sending of more trainees from Myanmar to media institutes opened in India and measures to report the news and format of news that foreign media are interested in. They also friendly exchanged views on signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries for the further development of the news and media sector, balanced cooperation between the state-owned media and independent media, and visit exchange programmes for journalists from the two countries.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Myo Htut also met Mr. Shirumalla Venkat Narayan at the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on June 6. At the meeting, they cordially exchanged views on the latest developments in Myanmar and matters pertaining to collaboration for the media sector development, dissemination of news on true situation of Myanmar to International community and capacity enhancement for state-owned media.
